Stano: New EU proposal on Serb municipalities balanced
BRUSSELS - EU spokesman Peter Stano said on Monday the EU had tabled a "balanced" proposal on the establishment of a Community of Serb Municipalities at the most recent Brussels meeting with leaders of Belgrade and Pristina and that Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic and Pristina's PM Albin Kurti had hinted a readiness in principle to accept the proposal.
That would advance the normalisation process and reduce the risk of escalation and fresh violence, Pristina's RTK quoted Stano as saying.
He said both parties had had preconditions that were unacceptable to the other party.
Stano added that he expected the readiness in principle to lead to implementation without further delay, but noted that preconditions were not acceptable.
He said the EU proposal had not been made public because diplomatic efforts were still underway.
