Sapic: I expected good electoral result, opposition underestimated me
BELGRADE - The head of the City of Belgrade Interim Authority Aleksandar Sapic said on Wednesday he had expected a good electoral result in the capital and noted that the opposition had underestimated him although he had not lost many elections in the past.
Engaging in politics means having large responsibility and being able to accept defeat, Sapic said on Happy TV, noting that he had appealed against introducing a culture where whoever lost in elections ground the state to a halt.
He said his good expectations ahead of the local elections in Belgrade had been based on favourable opinion polls, as well as on all that had been done over the past year and a half, and noted that the opposition had claimed its victory in Belgrade was a "finished affair" and that the elections were a mere formality.
"They did not take into account how many things have been done in Belgrade in the past year, and they underestimated me. I will remind them that I have been doing this job for 14 years and that there is not really a whole lot of elections that I have lost. They also underestimated President Aleksandar Vucic, who was heavily engaged in these elections because he was aware of the historic moment we are in with regards to global geopolitical developments," Sapic noted.
