Sapic: I have warned of "Maidanisation", opposition is destroying state
BELGRADE - Commenting on Sunday's attempt by a part of opposition parties to seize the City Hall through violence, head of the City of Belgrade Interim Authority Aleksandar Sapic said the damage sustained by the Old Palace was irreparable, and added that coming to power through anarchy meant the destruction of a state.
"We got in about 15-20 minutes ago, you had the opportunity to see at the entrance what the Old Palace looks like. I do not know how eloquent I will be and how capable I will be of being that, but this room we are in now is called the 19th Century. The damage is irreparable," Sapic said.
He noted that he had warned of what was coming a few days ago.
"I do not know whether some people are now aware that what I was saying was not a whim or an attempt of political marketing. I said that, if we allow political goals to be achieved through violence and destruction of the state, we will not have a state very soon," Sapic said.
"It is evident that the term 'Maidanisation', which I used, was accurate," he added.
