BELGRADE - The head of the City of Belgrade Interim Authority Aleksandar Sapic said on Monday that, despite the fact Serbia's ruling coalition had a legal and legitimate majority in the capital, a decision had been made to postpone the constitutive session of the new city assembly until March 1 and that new elections would be held if the assembly was not constituted.

Speaking to reporters, Sapic said a desire to "raise the bar of legitimacy" was the reason for the postponement.

If there is no majority in the assembly by the next session, new local elections will be held in the city, he said.
