NEW YORK - Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic met with Russian Ambassador to the UN Vassily Nebenzia in New York on Monday to discuss current challenges faced by Serbia as a result of a Srebrenica resolution being imposed on the agenda of the UN General Assembly.

In an Instageam post, Vucic wrote that he had asked the Russian diplomat to "support our country's position during decision-making in the UN this time, too."

He added that he had thanked Nebenzia for Russia's consistent position of respecting the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Serbia, also demonstrated at Monday's UN Security Council session on the work of UNMIK, the UN mission in Kosovo-Metohija.

"I again pointed out our country's determination to oppose by all political means precedents implying disrespect of international public law and reached agreements as well as determining law and the truth in a self-willed and selective manner."

Previously, at a reception hosted by the Serbian Mission to the UN, Vucic said adopting a draft Srebrenica resolution would lead to increased instability in the region, further deepen the divide between peoples and create fresh tensions in the Western Balkans.

"That is why our request is that the resolution, as it has been proposed, be withdrawn. And if that is not the case, we call on member states to vote against the draft resolution," Vucic said at the reception.
