NEW YORK - Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic spoke with UAE Ambassador Mohamed Abushahab in New York on Monday about the difficult challenges ahead of Serbia.

"I pointed out that Serbia is not denying the horrible crime that happened in Srebrenica, and that our country notes that on every occasion, believing that it is only in that way that true reconciliation can take place and mutual trust can be restored between peoples whose war wounds are still fresh," Vucic wrote on his buducnostsrbijeav Instagram account.

He added that he had asked Abushahab to convey to UAE President Mohamed bin Zayed Serbia's concern over such developments as well as a plea to the UAE to use its undeniable reputation in the international arena.

"On the other hand, I pointed out the hypocrisy of the proposers of a (Srebrenica) resolution, who in this way want to step up the pressure on Serbia and the Serbs as a whole, diverting attention from a flagrant violation of all principles of international law and justice as well as the rights of Serbs, especially in Kosovo-Metohija," Vucic said.

Previously, at a reception hosted by the Serbian Mission to the UN, Vucic said Serbia wanted the draft resolution to be withdrawn as it was not conducive to reconciliation but destabilisation in the region.
