Brnabic: With June 2 elections, we are demonstrating constructiveness
BELGRADE - Serbian Parliament Speaker Ana Brnabic said on Wednesday elections for the Belgrade city assembly and the remaining local polls in Serbia would be held simultaneously on June 2, in line with an opposition demand granted thanks to an appeal by Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic to demonstrate constructiveness so that "work can be continued after the elections."
Speaking to Pink TV, Brnabic said defusing tensions and establishing dialogue between the ruling parties and the opposition was a national interest at this time.
"The ruling parties in the parliament are stronger than ever - the Aleksandar Vucic - Serbia Must Not Stop list alone has 129 MPs. With coalition partners - the Socialist Party of Serbia, United Serbia, the Alliance of Vojvodina Hungarians and some others - it is practically nearly a two-thirds majority. Yet, we are demonstrating that, for the sake of seriousness, responsibility and respect for all Serbian citizens, we have dialogue and we listen and that we are trying to meet their (the opposition's) demands," Brnabic noted.
