BELGRADE - Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic met with UNMIK head Caroline Ziadeh in Belgrade on Monday.

Vucic said that, for Serbia, it was essential to continue reviewing the Kosovo-Metohija issue in the UN Security Council - above all, in order to keep the international community informed of the situation on the ground - and noted that continued UNMIK engagement was necessary.

Vucic also noted that Serbia consistently and continuously advocated respect of the principles of international law and implementation of the legally binding UN SC Resolution 1244, which is also the foundation of UNMIK, the presidential press office said in a statement.

Ziadeh said that, in keeping with its mandate, UNMIK respected the UN Charter and UN SC Resolution 1244 and advocated respect of all international agreements.

Vucic also said continued UNMIK engagement in Kosovo-Metohija was necessary, above all, due to permanent instability and the resulting large number of incidents.

"Belgrade is fully committed to dialogue, as testified by the willingness to continue the Brussels talks, as well as by overall efforts in the search for a solution to the crisis imposed by the Pristina side by taking unilateral moves. We consider the frequent attacks on Serbs, their property and heritage to be unacceptable, which is why a timely reaction, and a condemnation of provocations, by the UN and the international community is crucial," Vucic noted, adding that he hoped Serbia would succeed in preserving peace and stability.

He said Serbia was committed to advancement of regional cooperation as it directly contributed to a reconciliation process.
