BELGRADE - President of Serbia and Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) member Aleksandar Vucic said the party had won the majority in Sunday's elections for the Belgrade City Assembly, most likely claiming 63 out of 110 seats in the legislature.

"We also had the majority in Belgrade after (the) December 17 (elections), 54 out of 110, but we believed that, with two additional seats, 56 was not sufficient legitimacy because some others did not want to form a coalition with us. This means that, instead of 54 seats, we will now have 62 or 63 quite easily," Vucic told a press conference at the SNS headquarters in Belgrade.

He noted that the party had won 52 pct of all votes cast in the capital, and added that that was an "incredible victory."

He said an SNS victory was also certain in 15 out of the 17 Belgrade municipalities and that the outcome of municipal polls was still uncertain in the remaining two municipalities.

Vucic also said the SNS electoral list would have 45 seats in the Novi Sad city assembly after winning nearly 53 pct of votes and 32 seats in Nis.Service Photo Gallery
