Brnabic receives Italian ambassador

BELGRADE - Serbian Parliament Speaker Ana Brnabic received Italian Ambassador to Belgrade Luca Gori on Monday to discuss the significance of inter-parliamentary cooperation.

Brnabic said Serbia and Italy maintained developed bilateral cooperation in all areas and that the relations between the two countries were on the level of strategic partnership.

Italy is an important political and economic partner of Serbia, she said.

She also said a visit by a delegation of the foreign affairs committee of the lower house of the Italian parliament - to be headed by committee chairman Giulio Tremonti - would help advance further parliamentary cooperation, an official statement said.

Gori said parliamentary cooperation was developed and represented a very important segment of bilateral cooperation contributing to overall relations and Serbia's success on the EU path.

Brnabic noted that Serbia was grateful for Italy's support on the path to full EU membership and that a soonest-possible EU integration of the Western Balkans represented a guarantee of prosperity and stability in the region and Europe as a whole.

The parties agreed that a recent Italy-Serbia business forum in Trieste had been a success, improving further the bilateral cooperation, especially in the economy, green transition and innovation, the statement also said.
