BELGRADE - Serbian FM Marko Djuric received Hungarian Ambassador to Belgrade Jozsef Magyar on Thursday to discuss the current political situation in the region and Europe.

The parties exchanged views on the preliminary results of the recent European Parliament elections and potential directions of the European policy in the coming period, the Serbian MFA said in a statement.

Noting that Serbia had watched the elections in the 27 EU member states closely, Djuric extended congratulations to his counterpart Peter Szijjarto on the victory and the good election result of Hungary's FIDESZ party, and said it signalled a continuity of the close and friendly relations between Serbia and Hungary.

The parties agreed to continue the excellent cooperation at political level and coordinate activities concerning major international affairs, including the upcoming Ukraine peace summit in Switzerland.
