Small group of students, citizens continue to block RTS buildings

BELGRADE - A small group of student protesters and citizens are blocking the buildings of national public broadcaster RTS on Takovska Street in central Belgrade and the Kosutnjak Park for an eighth consecutive day on Monday.

All entrances of the Takovska Street building are blocked and employees cannot go to their workplaces.

As a result, the RTS has been forced to use an altered schedule since the start of the blockade on April 14.

All streets around the Takovska Street building are blocked to traffic.

The blockade in downtown Belgrade was joined by students from Novi Pazar, southwestern Serbia, and bikers on Sunday morning.

Due to the blockade, the RTS has filed a criminal complaint against unknown perpetrators and has also called on international institutions to react.

The student protesters have announced the blockade would last until "a new competition is opened for members of the Regulatory Authority for Electronic Media (REM) or until the RTS is shut down."
