BELGRADE - The First Basic Public Prosecutor's Office in Belgrade said on Wednesday no hearing had been scheduled for University of Belgrade Rector Vladan Djokic for April 23 or any other date.
The Prosecutor's Office said this in a statement issued in response to interest expressed by a large number of reporters who have interpreted an open letter by Djokic as saying he was due to appear in a hearing on Wednesday in connection with a criminal complaint filed against him last month by student Milos Pavlovic and others for the offence of violation of equality.
The Prosecutor's Office said that, on March 31, it had requested from the Rectorate of the University of Belgrade to submit certain decisions and explanations regarding the methodology of its work.
In the open letter, sent to Serbian PM Djuro Macut, Djokic said that, after receiving a request from the Prosecutor's Office to provide information in connection with the criminal complaint, he was unable to attend Wednesday's meeting in the government building as the request noted he was expected to "act urgently".
At the PM's invitation, Macut and Djokic met on Tuesday and agreed to continue discussions on Wednesday.
