BELGRADE - Savo Milosevic, who was on Monday unveiled as new head coach of Serbian football outfit Partizan Belgrade for a second time in his coaching career, said he was back at the club because he believed he was able to help it in a difficult time.

"Only a month ago, I was not even thinking about returning to the club. Like everyone else, I thought Aleksandar Stanojevic would stay at the club for a long time, but that is what football is like," he told a press conference.

He said he believed he was able to improve the Black-and-Whites' play.

"I think there is room for progress. The defensive aspect must be resolved first, and I am not only referring to the back line. We did not create this team, we will have to adapt, see what we have and deal with the squad we have. This squad can do more and better - I do not want to get into the reasons why they have not been playing that way," he said.

Milosevic succeeds Aleksandar Stanojevic, who resigned last Tuesday after an eight-game winless run across all competitions that culminated in a 4-0 home rout at the hands of arch-rivals Red Star in the 174th Eternal Derby.

Milosevic, 51, who played for Partizan between 1992 and 1995, has already had a spell as head coach at the club between March 2019 and September 2020.

He has also had brief stints as head coach of Slovenian outfit Olimpija Ljubljana and the Bosnia and Herzegovina national team.
