Red Star Belgrade win Serbian cup title to claim third consecutive double
BELGRADE - Red Star Belgrade have won the Serbian football cup by defeating Cukaricki 2-1 in the final on Thursday evening.
On a rainy night, in front of 10,000 spectators at the Rajko Mitic Stadium, the two teams produced a spectacular display with many opportunities to score.
By winning the 27th cup title in club history, the Red-and-Whites clinched their third consecutive double.
Cukaricki took the lead in the 21st minute through a phenomenal corner kick goal by team captain Marko Docic, but Red Star striker Aleksandar Pesic equalised with a header in the 61st minute after a Kings Kangwa cross and also netted the winner on a counter-attack in the 76th minute.
Red Star Belgrade will celebrate their 34th championship title after Sunday's home game against Novi Pazar in the last round of the Superliga play-offs.
