Djokovic beats Rune to secure end-year number one spot, 400th week at top
TURIN - Serbia's Novak Djokovic, the world number one in men's tennis, beat Dane Holger Rune 7-6 (7-4), 6-7 (1-7), 6-3 in the first round of the ATP Finals Green group in Turin on Sunday evening, securing his eighth career end-year number one spot in the ATP rankings.
Title holder Djokovic, who won after over three hours of play, began his 399th week at the top of the rankings on Monday and is also set to surpass the 400-week mark at the end of the season.
Djokovic is now 3-2 head-to-head against Rune.
Earlier, Italian Jannik Sinner defeated Greek Stefanos Tsitsipas 6-4, 6-4 in the other Green group match.
