Potential Serbia vs Russia friendly contingent on permissions by UEFA, FIFA
BELGRADE - The Football Association of Serbia (FSS) is considering a Serbia vs Russia friendly in St Petersburg in March next year but the idea will materialise only if UEFA and FIFA give their permissions, sources close to the FSS have told Tanjug.
In case the permissions are granted, the match would be played on March 21 or 22, becoming Russia's first game against a European national team in two years.
Russia have been suspended by UEFA and FIFA over the war in Ukraine and have since hosted only three national teams - Iraq, Cameroon and Cuba - playing Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan as well as Iran, Qatar and Kenya away from home.
Serbia will play another friendly on March 25 or 26 and two more in June as part of preparations for EURO 2024, where head coach Dragan Stojkovic's men will face England, Denmark and Slovenia.
