DOHA - Serbia beat Montenegro 14-6 (4-1, 2-2, 5-3, 3-0) at the water polo world championship in Doha on Wednesday.

Dusan Mandic led the scoring for Serbia with four goals while Djordje Vucinic, Viktor Rasovic and Strahinja Rasovic each scored a brace.

Earlier, US defeated Japan 18-5 in the other Group C match.

Serbia are on top of the group table with a maximum six points and are followed by the US with four, Montenegro with two and Japan with zero points.

In the last match of the group stage, Serbia face the US on Friday afternoon.

A win would secure direct qualification for the quarter-finals and, almost certainly, a berth at the Paris Olympics.
