UB - Serbian PM Ana Brnabic said on Tuesday the US was Serbia's top services trade partner and that, thanks to development of the Serbian IT sector, trade with the US in the sector had reached 1.38 bln euros and included a 1 bln euro surplus for Serbia.
Asked by a reporter about challenges to and wind in the sails of stronger relations with the US, Brnabic responded that, even though the relations were already good, the biggest challenges came from the recent past - the 1999 aggression and the bombing of Serbia, the secession of Serbian territory in Kosovo-Metohija and failure to respect international law and the UN Charter.
She noted that the greatest wind in the sails of the Serbia-US relationship came from the more distant shared past as the two countries had been on the same side in both world wars, as well as from the present economic cooperation.
"Thanks to growth of the ICT sector, the US is our number one services trade partner. Our young people in the IT sector mostly export their services and products to the US. Last year, our services trade volume reached 1.38 bln euros, where our surplus was 1 bln euros. The UK is the number two partner, but it lags far behind the US. If you look at our goods trade volume, Germany is by far our most significant partner, and if you look at services, it is the US. That is what is connecting us," Brnabic said.
