BELGRADE - Serbian Minister of Economy Slobodan Cvetkovic met with an International Monetary Fund (IMF) delegation on Wednesday and noted that the Serbian government was committed to a reform of state-owned enterprises.
"One of the goals of the law on management of enterprises owned by the Republic of Serbia is strengthening, corporatisation and better management of state enterprises with the aim of achieving better business results. Under the law, the Ministry of Economy will be the state authority performing a centralised role of the owner, in line with the best practices in developed market economies," Cvetkovic said.
He noted that adequate implementation of the law would begin in September, as planned, the Ministry of Economy said in a statement.
He also said Serbia's FDI inflow was stable, totalling 4.5 bln euros last year.
"If we add to the stable FDI inflow the Leap Into The Future plan that was recently unveiled by the Serbian president and includes 18 bln euros worth of investments in infrastructure and the upcoming EXPO 2027 specialised world expo, all that is a major impetus to further and stronger economic development of our country. Besides, we have a preserved macroeconomic, financial and energy stability as well as quality, well-educated workforce. All that is exceptional potential for comprehensive progress of Serbia," Cvetkovic said.
