BELGRADE - Serbian Parliament Speaker Vladimir Orlic spoke on Monday with UK MP Wendy Morton, former secretary for Europe and Americas at the UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office, about bilateral ties and interparliamentary cooperation.

Orlic said the Serbian parliament was interested in further cooperation with the British parliament, in active work by a Serbia-UK friendship group and in cooperation with the Westminster Foundation for Democracy.

Serbia is also interested in further strengthening of economic cooperation, which has been record-high in recent years, Orlic said.

"Serbia is firmly committed to its policy of peace and stability," he said.

He said the state policy led by Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic was firmly and overwhelmingly supported by the people, as demonstrated in elections, and added that that policy, in keeping with the will of the people, was also pursued by the parliament and the Serbian government.

Welcoming the cooperation between the two parliaments to date, Morton noted the significance of forging further ties with the aim of strengthening the representative role of the parliament and bringing legislative institutions closer to citizens - above all, to young people.

She also said she was pleased with regular activities the Serbian parliament was organising to that end.
