BELGRADE - Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic spoke with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz by phone on Thursday to discuss a lithium mining project in Saxony as well as economic cooperation, regional issues and continuation of dialogue within the Berlin Process.
"An excellent and very productive discussion with Chancellor Scholz about key issues of common interest, including economic cooperation, regional stability and the importance of strengthening the ties between Serbia and Germany," Vucic wrote in an Instagram post.
"We also discussed the growing need to step up diplomatic efforts in the region with a view to solving numerous issues that are important for maintaining peace and stability and, in particular, promotion of economic ties and European integration of the Western Balkans," Vucic said.
He added that they had also talked about growing challenges in the energy sector and the future of energy diversification.
"I expressed great interest in the lithium project in Saxony, aimed at promoting responsible mining practices and supporting the transition to green energy. I noted that sharing experiences and know-how could pave the way for innovative approaches to lithium extraction that give priority to environmental protection and community engagement," Vucic concluded.
