ZABALJ - Hungarian President Tamas Sulyok said on Monday in Zabalj, northern Serbia, that Serbia and Hungary had opened a new chapter in their relations and that the renovation and the consecration of the local Roman Catholic Church of Our Lady of the Snows would become a symbol of Hungarian-Serbian friendship and strengthen the faith in humaneness and in a shared European destiny of the two nations.

Sulyok added that he and Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic had discussed everything that had happened during WWII, agreeing that both the Serbian and the Hungarian side had forgiven each other for their misdeeds.

"The people always wants peace. For quite a while now, we have together been walking the path of reconciliation in brotherhood. We are here to pay a tribute to the victims on both sides in the spirit of Christianity and humaneness," he said.
