BELGRADE - Danish Minister for European Affairs Marie Bjerre said on Monday in Belgrade EU enlargement was one of the priorities for the upcoming period, noting that Serbia was showing great willingness for EU accession and that it was natural for its efforts towards membership to be supported.

Speaking to reporters after a meeting with Serbian Minister for European Integration Tanja Miscevic, Bjerre noted that Serbia was a part of the European continent and shared the same values.

She said her visit to all EU member states and candidate countries was in preparation for Denmark's Council of the EU presidency in the second half of 2025.

She said Serbia's journey towards EU membership meant reforms - free media, an independent judiciary and respect for all the fundamental rights and values of the EU.

"Right now there is a momentum for enlargement, for further EU integration, and I hope that Serbia will use that opportunity, use that momentum to further reach the criteria for EU membership," Bjerre said.

Miscevic said a meeting between Serbian and Danish delegations had addressed EU integration and everything Serbia could do now as well as during Denmark's EU presidency.

She said they had also discussed the opening of Cluster 3 in the EU accession talks, other clusters as well as self-evaluation when it comes to Chapters 23 and 24.
