BELGRADE - Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic spoke by telephone on Sunday with US State Department Counsellor Derek Chollet, who noted that the US fully supported an EU proposal on normalisation of Belgrade-Pristina relations and expected Monday's meeting in Brussels to be constructive and produce evident progress towards an agreement.
Chollet said previous agreements from the dialogue process, including establishment of a Community of Serb Municipalities, needed to be implemented, the presidential press office said in a statement.
Chollet conveyed to Vucic Washington's positions ahead of the Brussels meeting.
Vucic said he expected a very difficult meeting but that Serbia was committed to peace and stability in the region and that, in that context, he was ready to work on the concept and implementation of the proposed plan, but with clearly defined restrictions.
Vucic and Chollet also discussed Serbia's European future, which is backed by the US, as well as significant opportunities for development of Serbia-US cooperation in various areas, especially in the economy, the statement said.
