BELGRADE - Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic on Sunday thanked Ugandan President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni for his country's support for Serbia's territorial integrity and sovereignty across its territory, and announced greater economic cooperation between the two countries.

"I am grateful to President Museveni for Uganda's adherence to the principle of territorial integrity and support for the integrity and sovereignty of Serbia across its territory in all international organisations, institutions and bodies, and we are doing the same when it comes to Uganda and all African countries," Vucic said at a joint press conference with Museveni after the two presidents met in Belgrade.

Thanking Museveni for coming to Serbia, Vucic said the visit was the first by a president of Uganda in exactly 36 years.

He noted that the population of Africa would exceed 2.5 billion in 30 years, making the continent one of the world's most significant markets.

"We touched upon the matter of concrete cooperation and a delegation of our experts that will include at least one or two ministers will visit Uganda by the end of August to discuss agricultural cooperation as well as all other spheres. We have already had cooperation in defence and we want to advance and increase it," Vucic said.

He expressed gratitude for an invitation to attend a Non-Aligned Movement congress in Kampala in January 2024 and said he was greatly honoured by it.

Vucic also said he hoped direct flights between Belgrade and Kampala could be established by the end of next year.
