BELGRADE - Serbian PM Ana Brnabic said on Tuesday evening the ICT sector was an engine of Serbia's development and that her government would focus on five areas during preparations for EXPO 2027: autonomous cars, a BIO4 campus, investments in science and technology parks, further investments in Kragujevac and development of artificial intelligence.
"We have started preparations for EXPO 2027, where we will showcase Serbia as a country of innovation and modern technologies. Serbia is one of Europe's leaders in artificial intelligence," she said.
She said autonomous, driverless cars were the number one focus.
"About a month ago, we issued the first licence for Level 3 driverless cars, which means that the driver is in the driver's seat but does not control the car," she said.
Serbia is one of the first five European countries to do so, she added.
"Our goal is to have the maximum Level 5 and fully autonomous vehicles by 2027 so that all vehicles for EXPO 2027 can be driverless electric vehicles. For that reason, we have submitted a bill to amend the traffic safety law so that we can issue the Level 4 licence by the end of the year," Brnabic said.
