Vucic: Brussels discussions ended with no success, we accepted EU proposal

BRUSSELS - Speaking to reporters in Brussels after Thursday's high-level meeting of the Belgrade-Pristina dialogue, Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic said discussions to find a clear path to normalisation of relations had ended with no success.

"We all have our proposals - the (ethnic) Albanians have theirs and we have ours. In the end, we, as Serbia, accepted an EU compromise proposal, (Pristina's PM Albin) Kurti did not want to accept it and the meeting concluded," Vucic said.

"It is clear that Kurti is avoiding the establishment of a Community of Serb Municipalities, and that is the essence of everything. Serbia is not shunning its obligations but we, as well as the EU, said what the hodogram is and how things must go. We accepted their (the EU's) proposal despite the fact it was not easy for us in any way, while Kurti refused, and that is how it all ended," Vucic said.

"I think you will get a confirmation of this from EU officials as well," Vucic added.

"We said that, since our last meeting and the June 3 statement by 27 EU representatives, there have been 22 escalatory moves by Pristina, including today at Korilj in the Zvecan municipality, where they made provocations and tried to intimidate people. When they saw I mentioned that during the dialogue itself, they withdrew their people, but that happens on a daily basis. In the past two months, with Kurti in power, there were 55 pct more incidents than during anyone else's rule in Kosovo-Metohija. Those are the facts we pointed out here," Vucic said.

He said that, evidently, the times that were ahead of Serbia would not be easy.

"Serbia has made an effort and has been a very constructive, serious and dependable partner to the international community. We will see how things will go in the future," Vucic said.
