BELGRADE - Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic said on Tuesday Serbia's new Lazar 3 armoured personnel carrier was garnering major interest abroad.
"This is the latest Lazar model, the Lazar 3 - the one all foreigners are asking for and want to buy from us now," Vucic said during a static display of Serbian Armed Forces (SAF) arms and military equipment at the Topcider army barracks in Belgrade.
During a presentation of the vehicle, Vucic was told Lazar 3 was equipped with cameras for all operators including the machine gun operator and had a high level of anti-mine protection.
The new version of the APC also has a stronger armour and a high degree of protection in ambush situations.
Vucic said the SAF had ordered 80 Lazars and 112 Milos APCs and that an important electronic jamming system was due to arrive from the Russian Federation.
He said funds for 701 weapons systems had been secured and that monies for 853 more domestically produced systems remained to be found.
Vucic also said he believed the army would be able to acquire a large quantity of Serbian-made suicide drones by the end of the year.
