BELGRADE - Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic announced on Friday Belgrade would request an urgent UNSC session over the situation in Kosovo-Metohija.

In a public address from the Palace of Serbia, Vucic said Serbia's representative to the UN would submit a written request on Monday.

"Guyana is presiding over the Security Council. Unfortunately, they recognise 'Kosovo' but there is no right of veto here, a nine-member majority is required, and we will see if we will succeed in securing a majority," Vucic said.

He added that he believed even countries that recognised the so-called Kosovo would vote in favour of holding the urgent session as they understood well the consequences of Pristina PM Albin Kurti's "criminal decision" to stop payment transactions with central Serbia.

"We will continue our consultations and request the session accordingly, and we will not give up on respect of the norms of international public law and the UN Charter," Vucic said.

He also said the situation in Kosovo-Metohija was not easy and that things were complicated, but that Belgrade was talking, and would talk, to international partners.

"I think there is huge distrust towards Pristina and its moves. I think that everyone understands today how correct we were in saying that only one side wants to spark chaos, make provocations and escalate the situation in Serbia's southern province," Vucic said.

He said his meeting with representatives of Quint states earlier this week had been difficult but that they shared Serbia's views on the abolition of the dinar in Kosovo-Metohija and that a "relatively fair" US stance on the issue had surprised him.

Vucic also said Serbia would take all measures to enable Serbs in Kosovo-Metohija to receive their incomes despite "difficult, almost impossible conditions."
