BELGRADE - As part of an ongoing operation aimed at curbing irregular migration, Serbian police found a total 738 irregular migrants in the territory of Subotica, Sombor and Kikinda, northern Serbia, and Pirot, southeastern Serbia, on Thursday, the police said in a statement.
The police checked 32 buildings and 5,096 vehicles, seizing a total of 87 foreign passports and six IDs in the territory of the Police Directorate of Kikinda alone during checks of buildings and areas previously occupied by irregular migrants.
Misdemeanour charges were filed against seven irregular migrants pursuant to the Law on Border Control, while criminal charges were filed with the prosecutor's office in Pirot against two people for the offences of illegal crossing of the state border and people smuggling, the police said.
