BELGRADE - Serbian Minister of Mining and Energy Dubravka Djedovic Handanovic said on Thursday a Serbia-US agreement on strategic cooperation in the energy sector, signed in Washington on Wednesday, was very important for the upcoming energy transition and that there was great interest among US companies in investing in renewable energy sources in Serbia.
"We need that, but we also need sufficient experience and know-how to translate that know-how into concrete initiatives and projects here," Djedovic Handanovic said.
She said Serbia wanted to take the path of energy transition, but not at the expense of the security of its energy system.
Energy transition implies major investments - above all, in power generation capacities and new green megawatts - as well as strengthening of the transmission and distribution grids, which has already begun in Serbia, she said.
"That is absolutely where partners from the US can be very useful," she said.
The minister said work with US-based partners was already underway on several projects and that the cooperation would continue to develop to achieve concrete results, be it in the renewables sector or in the field of new solar or wind power plants.
