BELGRADE - Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic said on Thursday Air Serbia would launch direct flights between Belgrade and Tokyo within six months and that forging ties with Japan was of the utmost importance for Serbia.
"We will do everything we can to establish the flights within the next six months," Vucic said at a Serbia-Japan business forum, inviting representatives of Japanese companies to come to Serbia more often.
He said he and Finance Minister Sinisa Mali had discussed introducing three new direct flight routes from Belgrade, including to Tokyo.
Vucic also said that, for the first time ever, the exchange rate of the Serbian dinar had been stable for 12 years and that incentives and subsidies to Japanese companies made Serbia comparable to the best countries in Europe and beyond.
"Of course, there are also issues we must commit to better - such as rule of law and the judicial system - and I hope we will be able to do that," he said.
He noted that the geopolitical situation was not easy but could be turned into Serbia's advantage when it comes to potential foreign investments in the country, and noted that Serbia would maintain peace and stability in the region and good ties with all.
