INDJIJA - Serbian PM Milos Vucevic said on Thursday in Indjija, northwestern Serbia, that Japanese tyre maker Toyo Tires aimed to transfer key manufacturing and sales operations for Europe to Serbia, and announced that the Serbian government and all relevant authorities would support the plan.

Toyo Tires will set up Toyo Tire Sales and Marketing Europe doo Indjija as its new sales and marketing hub for the European market.

"Undeniably, Indjija is their hub for European activities and in terms of manufacturing, and I hope they will also go for implementing a research and development centre as that is always a factory of know-how and an opportunity for young engineers and technology professionals to get jobs, knowledge and skills," Vucevic told reporters during a visit to a Toyo Tires plant in the municipality.

That is good news for the Serbian economy, for the company's employees and for Indjija, he added.

"The Government of Serbia and all institutions will provide full support to Toyo Tires in implementing the plans because that means more money in the budget, GDP growth. They are a major exporter to the European and US markets. I see they are interested in how our talks with the new Washington administration on customs duties on our goods will go," Vucevic said.

He said the factory's workforce of around 700 was exhibiting a growth trend and would certainly generate budget revenues for the municipality.
