NINGBO - Serbian Minister of Internal and External Trade Tomislav Momirovic said on Tuesday a FTA with China would boost bilateral trade further and strengthen the Serbian economy.

Momirovic, who visited the Chinese cities of Ningbo and Hangzhou, said Serbia's trade with China was highly successful and added that Serbian exports to China had totalled 6 mln and 14 mln dollars in 2012 and 2014, respectively, and jumped to 1.3 bln dollars in 2022.

After a meeting with Ningbo Mayor Tang Feifan, Momirovic said the city's port accounted for 95 pct of China's imports from Serbia, and added that he had had a meeting with merchants importing Serbian products.

"We informed the merchants of the FTA we are negotiating with the Chinese. We saw how we can provide additional support to them to help them import even more of our goods," Momirovic said.

He said he had visited Future Park, an industrial park owned by the company SSSS, and that Belgrade's Mihajlo Pupin Technology Park would be built in collaboration with the firm.

"We took this opportunity to visit an industrial park. We want to build an identical park in Belgrade, to be more exact, on the other bank of the Danube, near Borca," Momirovic said.

He said Serbia was interested in new, more sophisticated Chinese investments in the pharmaceuticals and IT industries, and added that they represented new opportunities for Serbia that could bring higher earnings to its citizens.

In Hangzhou, Momirovic visited the headquarters of e-retailer Alibaba and informed the company of Serbia's interest in joint business operations.

In a statement released by his ministry, Momirovic said he expected Serbian exports to China to reach 2 bln euros in the next several years.
