Djedovic Handanovic: Development of industry, EVs path to green transition

NOVI SAD - Development of industry and electric vehicles is the path to carrying out a green transition in Serbia, Serbian Minister of Mining and Energy Dubravka Djedovic Handanovic said on Thursday.

Addressing the Electric Vehicle Days conference in Novi Sad, Djedovic Handanovic noted that entire Serbia must keep up with a trend of development of technical sciences and digitalisation.

"Green transition is a political, financial, scientific and economic factor of development of modern society. It encompasses various fields of action towards a green, sustainable and circular economy. It is not sufficient to produce more electricity from renewable sources if we continue to rely on fossil fuels in important sectors such as heating and transport," she said.

She added that a national energy and climate plan set the objectives for 2030.

"Above all, that is an increase of the share of renewables in electricity generation, heating energy and transport to 45 pct, 31 pct and 7 pct, respectively, an increase of energy efficiency through limiting the maximum consumption of primary and final energy and a 40 pct reduction of greenhouse effect gases compared to 1990," Djedovic Handanovic said.
