BELGRADE - Two years ago, Serbia was generating around 20 MW of power from solar power plants but will be generating over 150 MW by the end of this year, or about 7.5 times more, Serbian Minister of Mining and Energy Dubravka Djedovic Handanovic said on Thursday.
Addressing a Re-set Summit conference in Belgrade, Djedovic Handanovic announced the largest solar power plant in Serbia's Banat region would be built this year.
She said the 26 MW plant would be capable of meeting the electricity needs of around 30,000 residents.
The minister noted this was another confirmation of improvements to the regulatory framework through last year's amendments to the Law on Renewable Energy Sources, which have made it possible to conduct the first market premium auctions for power generated from renewables.
