Ragus meets with Portuguese ambassador

BELGRADE - Serbian Deputy Parliament Speaker Marina Ragus, who also heads the Committee on Foreign Affairs, met with Portuguese Ambassador to Belgrade Jose Rui Velez Caroco on Tuesday to discuss advancement of interparliamentary cooperation between the two countries.
The parties agreed that parliamentary diplomacy could play a major role in further advancement and deepening of the relations between the two countries.
Ragus especially noted the importance of cooperation between the two parliaments amid the current volatile geopolitical situation, an official statement said.
She also noted that EU membership remained a strategic foreign policy objective of Serbia and that, regardless of the circumstances in the global political arena, President Aleksandar Vucic and the Serbian government remained firmly focused on maintaining peace and stability in the region and on continuing the economic growth and improving the citizens' living standards.
The ambassador noted that Portugal would continue to support Serbia on the European path and that his embassy would do everything in its power to support the strengthening of cooperation between the two parliaments.
