NOVI SAD - Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic said on Thursday the construction of a Novi Sad-Subotica high-speed rail line section - to be inaugurated on November 24 - was a "big thing" for entire Serbia and that he expected Hungary to complete its stretch of a Belgrade-Budapest line in two years' time.
During a trial run of a section between Belgrade and Subotica, Vucic said high-speed train journeys between Belgrade and Budapest would take 2 hours and 40 minutes.
He said that, after Budapest, he expected high-speed railway connections to also be established with Thessaloniki and Istanbul via Nis but that funds needed to be secured for that purpose.
"The construction of this rail line changes everything. We expect the connection with Budapest to result in a rise in the number of tourists," Vucic said.
"We dream big, and we make dreams come true," he said.
