BELGRADE - Serbia sees Hungary not only as a strategic and political partner but also as a sincere friend, Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic said on Monday after a meeting with Hungarian counterpart Tamas Sulyok, who is on an official visit to Serbia.
Speaking at a joint press conference with Sulyok, Vucic said he was very happy to have an opportunity to host him in Belgrade.
"Not only in Belgrade - after our lunch together, we will be going to both Curug and Zabalj today. The level of the relations between Serbia and Hungary is higher than ever in our difficult history. I am grateful to Hungary's top officials, to President Ader and (PM) Viktor Orban above all, and to the previous president, Katalin Novak, as well as to respected President Tamas Sulyok, for the always sincere advocacy of good, open and friendly relations with Serbia," Vucic said at the Palace of Serbia.
He noted that Hungarians and Hungary as a country enjoyed high popularity in Serbia.
"I would say that we see the Hungarians as sincere friends, and I believe everything we will be doing today will be another link in the chain of an even firmer and stronger friendship between us. We also share numerous interests. While being grateful for the support on our European path, I would like to say the economy is what best confirms our political ties," Vucic also noted.
