BELGRADE - The head of the Serbian government Office for Kosovo-Metohija Petar Petkovic said Pristina's special police had last night opened fire at a car near a bridge on the road from Leposavic to Kosovska Mitrovica, wounding the driver, a Kosovo-Metohija Serb.

Speaking to Prva TV, Petkovic said the driver, Milan Jovanovic, had undergone surgery at the Kosovska Mitrovica clinical hospital and was now in stable condition.

"I have spoken with his sister Nadica, who visited him as a doctor, as well as with our doctors there. Milan's life is now out of danger, he has an exit wound on the right side of his chest and he was a few millimeters away from losing his life. God alone saved him," said Petkovic, condemning the attack.

He said Jovanovic was a peaceful family man, a father of three who was making a living as a taxi driver.

Petkovic said Jovanovic's car was riddled with bullet holes after being fired at for no reason whatsoever.

Commenting on Pristina's claims its police were not behind the shooting, Petkovic said:

"Then why are they refusing to show camera footage from the site?"
