BELGRADE - Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic said on Thursday evening the government had reacted well after deadly mass shootings earlier this month and that the opposition had proposed no concrete measures.
Speaking to Pink TV, Vucic said the government had reacted appropriately in "a state of shock."
He said he had heard no concrete measures proposed by the opposition, except claims that he was a criminal and a person without empathy who was shedding false tears.
"Our job was to introduce measures. When you are president of the country, you have to make decisions and prevent photos of dead children from being published and stop those who might face accusations from leaving the country," Vucic said, adding that over 45,000 guns and explosives had been handed in in a campaign aimed at collecting legal and illegal firearms from citizens.
He said Friday's pro-government rally in Belgrade would also be attended by people who had taken part in recent opposition protests against violence.
"Simply put, the people protested against violence. Those people wanted to do something, to contribute," Vucic said.
