BELGRADE - Serbian Parliament Speaker Vladimir Orlic met with Indonesian Ambassador to Belgrade Mochammad Chandra Widya Yudha on Friday to discuss strengthening the friendly bilateral relations between the two countries, whose 70th anniversary will be marked next year.
Orlic thanked Indonesia for its firm and principled positions regarding respect of the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Serbia and non-recognition of the so-called "Kosovo", the Serbian parliament said in a statement.
"Indonesia and Serbia are consistently on the side of international public law and respect of the universal principles that are the foundation of the UN Charter. It is our consistent position that, by respecting the integrity of all UN member states as much as we respect ours, we are preserving the international order," Orlic said.
He informed the ambassador of the extremely difficult situation in Kosovo-Metohija.
"The Serbs are exposed to brutal terror by Albin Kurti - attacks on human lives and property occur on a daily basis, accompanied by flagrant violation of human rights that is unthinkable anywhere in the world. In such extremely difficult conditions, we remain consistently committed to preservation of peace and dialogue as the only right way to reach a solution, as well as to further development and progress of our country," Orlic said.
The ambassador said he was pleased with the decades-long friendship and mutual respect and support demonstrated on the most important issues, especially when it comes to the clear advocacy of the principles of international public law.
He also congratulated Serbia on winning a bid to host EXPO 2027.
The parties agreed there was major potential for development of cooperation in numerous fields and expressed interest in further encouragement of economic cooperation, noting that they were pleased with a record-high volume of bilateral trade registered in 2023.
