NEW YORK - Serbia's Consul-General in New York Vladimir Bozovic has met with Archbishop Elpidophoros in the seat of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America to discuss many current topics of mutual interest, Serbia's consulate-general in New York said in a statement.

Bozovic conveyed to Archbishop Elpidophoros the regards of Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic and Patriarch Porfirije of the Serbian Orthodox Church, extending, on behalf of Serbia, greetings for the upcoming New Year and Christmas holidays.

Welcoming the consul-general, Archbishop Elpidophoros wished him luck in his work and gave him his personal blessing for success in the responsible post.

He also asked Bozovic to convey to President Vucic and Patriarch Porfirije his New Year and Christmas greetings.

Bozovic expressed his deepest gratitude for all the selfless support, help and brotherly love given by the Greek people to the Serbs, especially in the difficult years of the breakup of the former Yugoslavia and international sanctions, the statement said.

He especially thanked the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America for a decision to open the doors of its churches in New York to Serbian Orthodox believers and clerics following the May 2016 fire that destroyed the Manhattan Church of St Sava and allow them to use its premises for religious services and school classes, as well as for the several years of hospitality that followed.
