BELGRADE - Serbian FM Marko Djuric received Hungarian Ambassador to Belgrade Jozsef Magyar on Friday, noting that the close relations between the Serbs and Hungarians were the biggest treasure and the best pledge for the future.

"I am especially pleased that my term as FM symbolically began with a visit to Budapest and, on this occasion, I would like to reiterate my gratitude for the recent cordial welcome by Minister Peter Szijjarto," Djuric said.

He said regular meetings between officials of the two countries at all levels had an exceptional dynamic and that, besides inter-state relations and the friendship between Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic and Hungarian PM Viktor Orban, the two peoples were connected by excellent inter-human relations.

"The close relations between our two peoples are the greatest treasure and the best pledge for the future as our citizens are the ones who have historically been maintaining and cherishing relations also outside of government channels," Djuric added.

Commenting on Hungarian support for Serbia's EU integration, Djuric said Serbia was highly appreciative of the fact Hungary was one of the main advocates of enlargement, noting that he especially looked forward to the upcoming Hungarian EU presidency.

Djuric and Magyar also discussed the development of a mechanism of expert consultations and experience-sharing, which would be extremely beneficial to Serbia in the EU accession process as its strategic commitment, the Serbian MFA said in a statement.
