BELGRADE - Students who are blocking university buildings in Belgrade gathered outside the Faculty of Dramatic Arts building on Thursday morning before embarking on an approx. 70 km protest walk to Novi Sad, where they will join colleagues who will on Saturday mark three months since the November 1 railway station tragedy in Novi Sad.
The protest walk on the so-called Old Novi Sad Road is expected to take two days including breaks.
According to reports by media outlets, the students are accompanied by farmers on tractors and bikers, who joined under the slogan of A Step Away from Justice.
Student protesters in Novi Sad have announced they would block all three of the city's bridges on February 1 to commemorate the railway station tragedy, which left 15 people dead.
Serbian Interior Minister Ivica Dacic said on Thursday morning the protest walk was registered with the Interior Ministry and that the route from the Faculty of Dramatic Arts building in Belgrade to the railway station in Novi Sad would be fully secured by the police and that traffic would be halted or redirected.
