BELGRADE - The head coach of the Serbia men's national football team Dragan Pixie Stojkovic will not resign despite his team's early exit from EURO 2024 and wants to remain in the post, Sportski zurnal reports.
The sports daily says Stojkovic is convinced the team's achievements reflected its present ability and that Serbia's performance at EURO 2024 was no disgrace despite a last-place finish in the group stage with only two points won and one goal scored.
The report also says Stojkovic is expecting to have a sit-down with Football Association of Serbia President Dragan Dzajic and Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic to explain the reasons behind the failure in Germany.
Under Stojkovic's stewardship, Serbia have qualified for the FIFA World Cup in Qatar, the UEFA Nations League Division A and, ultimately, EURO 2024, which was a historic achievement for the country after 24 years of failure to qualify.
Stojkovic recently extended his contract until 2026 and is entitled to a 1 mln euro severance pay.
