BELGRADE - Architectural contracts with future tenants of the BIO4 campus - a unique multidisciplinary project that will enable Belgrade to become one of Europe's recognised bioeconomic centres - were signed at the Serbian government on Wednesday.

Serbian Minister of Science, Technological Development and Innovation Jelena Begovic signed the contracts with representatives of seven University of Belgrade faculties, nine institutes and the Belgrade Science and Technology Park.

Begovic said the first tenants were due to move in in 2026 and that the first construction permit for the start of works was due within five days.

"As an individual project, this is the biggest-ever investment in science in Serbia, and that is perhaps a change of the concept of science in Serbia," Begovic said.

Preparatory works to build a facility in the future approx. 20 ha BIO4 campus in the Rakovica village near Belgrade began on May 29 this year and the estimated value of the bioeconomic hub is around 350 mln euros.

The Ministry of Science, Technological Development and Innovation has said the BIO4 campus was an amalgamation of biomedicine, biotech, bioinformatics and biodiversity and that it was a unique multidisciplinary project in the wider region.
