BRUSSELS - Slovenian FM Tanja Fajon said on Monday EU FMs would support the election of Danish diplomat Peter Sorensen as the new EU special envoy for the Belgrade-Pristina dialogue and that the dialogue would be high on the EU agenda.
"Today, we will support the new EU special envoy for the Belgrade-Pristina dialogue, the reputable and well-known Danish diplomat Sorensen, who has already led European delegations in Bosnia and Herzegovina and North Macedonia," Fajon told reporters in Brussels before a meeting of the EU Council on Foreign Affairs.
On Friday, EU ambassadors confirmed Sorensen's nomination as the new special envoy for the Belgrade-Pristina dialogue.
Sorensen was put forward for the post by EU foreign policy and security chief Kaja Kallas.
As the final step in the procedure, the nomination needs to be approved by EU FMs on Monday for Sorensen to be able to assume the duty in early February.
Outgoing special envoy Miroslav Lajcak's term expires on January 31.
