NEW YORK - Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic met with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian during the 79th UN General Assembly session in New York to discuss the most important aspects of Serbia-Iran cooperation and global geopolitical affairs, and the difficult situation of Serbs in Kosovo-Metohija was a special topic of the meeting.

In an Instagram post, Vucic wrote that, in a cordial meeting with Pezeshkian, he had noted the significance of the UN in efforts to step up dialogue and diplomatic activities with a view to calming all conflicts - whose consequences he noted were already deep and far-reaching - as quickly as possible.

"A special topic of the discussions was the difficult situation of Serbs in Kosovo-Metohija, and I informed my esteemed discussion partner in detail of all challenges on the path of resolving the many outstanding and serious issues in that regard," Vucic posted.

He added that he had thanked Iran for its consistent and unwavering position regarding the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Serbia and noted that Serbia appreciated the stance, which he said resisted numerous pressures but also reflected the friendly relations between the two nations.

Vucic wrote that he had invited the Iranian president to visit Serbia to discuss the potential for cooperation in many areas and solidify the relations between the two countries.

"We exchanged views on the place and role of our countries in the international political arena, as well as the need to best use our influence with the aim of development, progress, peace, stability and economic connectivity, much-needed by all of us today," Vucic posted.
